Voting on new playground equipment Sint Luciaplein | vote up until 30 October 2026

During the Burendagen on Sunday 27 September on the Sint Luciaplein, we talked with many neighbourhood residents about the future of the square and the playground. A lot of good ideas and practical suggestions came to light. Saturday 10 October, many residents came together at OMNII to discuss a few suggestions for the new playground equipment. During these conversations we found that it wasn’t clear for everyone what the process will be, which is why we will explain to you here .

What is the situation?
De huidige speeltoestellen zijn aan vervanging toe en de gemeente heeft de buurtvereniging uitgenodigd om samen met de buurt te kiezen welke nieuwe toestellen op het plein komen. Hiervoor is in totaal €37.000,- beschikbaar. Hiervan moeten alle nieuwe toestellen, de plaatsing hiervan en de bijbehorende ondergrond betaald worden.

The current playground equipment needs to be replaced and the municipality has invited the neighbourhood association to choose the new equipment together with the residents. There is a total budget of €37.00,- available. This budget will be used on the new playground equipment, the placement of this, and the new ground materials.
The new equipment has to be ordered this year, so that it can be placed in the spring of 2027. This is why we have to make a decision now. The equipment doesn’t have to be placed at the exact spot of the current equipment. This means we can also think about the layout of the rest of the square. Of course there are more wishes and dreams for the square. While these will be taken into account, not everything can be executed at once. For now, we already have to keep the future layout in mind. After all, the place where we will build a slide, cannot be used anymore for a garden.

What was discussed during the Burendagen?
During the Burendagen we mostly talked about how the square is currently being used and what about this is either good as is or can be improved. People unanimously shared that they wanted the playground to stay in the same location. The playground is easy to keep in sight and not too close to the houses. Aside from that, the youth meeting spot was an annoyance that was often named. While people said they want teenagers to have their own meeting spot, people don’t want that spot to be on Sint Luciaplein. We have received confirmation that this meeting spot can disappear from the square and does not have to be put back.

Another thing that often came up in conversations was the noise disturbance, both from people visiting the square as, for example, from bouncing basketballs. We are looking into ways to minimize this problem, for example by using a different material for the ground. We have also talked about official signs with the opening hours of the square, so that these times can be enforced.

A lot of people also talked about the need for more space for encounters and meeting up with people. For example, nice seating, benches and tables. An elderly meeting spot was brought up, for example with a jeu de boules court. More greenery and less stone was also talked about a lot. many residents would like to have more greenery and shade. Where possible we want to remove concrete and stone to make room for plants.

All these ideas will be taken into account in the design for the whole square.

But first: What playground equipment do we choose?

Based on the wishes from residents, the space available and the budget, four options are available. There are a few things that are the same in all designs:

  • Basketball: in all four options there is one basket. 3×3 basketball is getting more popular and with one basket there is room for other sports and games, such as football.
  • Football: the football goals will be about the same size as the current goals.
  • Nest swing: As opposed to the designs below, all swingsets will also include a nest swing.

Look at the four options down below and vote for your favourite! you can vote up until 30 October.
We’d love to hear from everyone who uses the square, so also let your children, neighbours and other visitors of the square vote!

What happens next?
In the meantime, we are working on a design for the whole square. In this design we are checking how the playground equipment with the most votes fit on the square, but also how we can add other ideas and wishes.

In our newsletter on Friday 27 November we will share the outcome of the voting and what the next steps are. Are you not signed up for the newsletter yet? You can sign up at the bottom of this page to stay up to date on the future of the Sint Luciaplein and all the other fun and important news surrounding our neighbourhood.

We expect to be able to share the first design in about 10 weeks. We will then once again talk with residents, so there is enough room to share your ideas!

Right now there is no budget for anything extra. Once we have a complete plan we can start looking for fitting subsidies, funds, and other ways to finance the new square. This way we can keep improving the square step by step in the upcoming years!

Important information
Above a lot of information was shared, but what are the concrete steps? Those are as follows:

Right now: Voting on the playground equipment. Look at all the options and vote at the bottom of the page on your favorite.

Order new equipment. For the equipment, placement and the new materials for the ground there is a total of €37.000,- available. The equipment with the most votes has to be ordered this year.

Make a design for the whole square. In the meantime, we are working on a complete design focused on, among other things, greenery, seating and meeting spots, sports and reducing disturbances. This design has to fit within the hedges and the underground containers.

Discuss the first design with the neighbourhood. We expect to be able to show the first design in about 10 weeks. Residents will be able to give their opinions.

Look for extra finance options. There is no budget for extra ideas. With the plan completed we will be able to look for subsidies, funds and other possibilities.

Improve the square step by step. The new equipment is expected to be placed next spring. After that we will work together to improve the rest of the square.
