’t Zand is located between the Dommel and Dieze rivers and the railway tracks running through Central Station. The neighbourhood has more than 2,500 residents with different backgrounds, lifestyles, ages, income levels and religions. It consists of tenants, homeowners, squatters, refugees, entrepreneurs, students, homeless, artists and many others who call ’t Zand home.
Currently there are more than 100 different types of companies and cultural organisations located in our neighbourhood. These range from family businesses, such as Jan de Groot, to institutions such as the Verkadefabriek, the San Damiano monastery, the Tramkade, Essent and everything in between.
Since 1890, people have been making ’t Zand the vibrant neighbourhood that it is today And for almost 50 years the Zandbewoners (previously known as the resident association ’t Zand) has been connecting residents, companies and organisations, with each other and the neighbourhood. Our goal is a safe, clean and greener neighbourhood!

Work group: Expert traffic matters
As a board member of our association, I contribute to the realisation of a greener, peaceful and liveable neighbourhood. I do this by dealing with traffic issues, with which I hope to achieve, that through traffic no longer drives through our neighbourhood, destination traffic drives 30 km/h, and that fewer buses drive through ‘t Zand.
My promise is that we will focus on finding good solutions for everyone in the neighbourhood and start, according to the following three principles: fairness, proportional and balanced solutions in traffic.

Zandbewoners has a board and works with five working groups: communication, meet connect, sustainability, green and communities. Each working group consists of volunteers from the neighbourhood who carry out a number of different tasks. We also maintain contact with local politicians, the municipality, and housing and welfare organizations active in our neighborhood.
This working group takes care of all communications from Sand residents. This includes, but is not limited to, writing the monthly newsletter, resident letters and flyers, and maintaining the website and its social media.
This is the group of volunteers who work to organize activities and events in ‘t Zand. These include NLdoet and the Neighborhood Days in ‘t Zand.
It also includes our bi-weekly litter clean-up activities, Sand Runners.
The sustainability working group works closely with the municipality, Zayaz housing cooperative and other partners. The volunteers help with sustainable projects in ‘t Zand. One example is our own project on Maijweg and side streets, to make 105 listed houses more sustainable. We are also involved in Proeftuin ‘t Zand, which is working to make 500 homes in ‘t Zand Noord more sustainable.
These volunteers are committed to creating, planting and maintaining existing and new greenery in our neighbourhood. They do this, for example, by helping residents with the construction of facade and container gardens and by planting more green on municipal land.
Our communities’ working group do a lot behind the scenes. The volunteers are involved in the recruiting and supporting of all of our volunteers and the setting up a membership model for our association.
Are you interested in one or more of these working groups?
Please contact us to discuss the possibilities!
