Green day 2024

Residents from 't Zand helped to improve the biodiversity in our neighbourhood by planting more greenery.

Local residents came together to maintain the plants in ‘t Zand and to make our neighbourhood greener. With more than 20 volunteers, we set to work to make a difference in the neighbourhood.

What?
During this first Green day, organized by neighbourhood association Zandbewoners, volunteers put a lot of work into making our neighbourhood a greener place. It was a fun day where we made a big difference.

This is everything we did:

  • 520 plants were added to facade gardens and balconies in the neighbourhood.
  • 5 new facade gardens were created and 35 balcony plant packages were distributed to residents who had requested them.
  • 24 volunteers helped on the day itself and even more during the preparations and the days that followed.
  • 6 cubic metres of wood chips were spread with wheelbarrows to improve the footpaths and seating areas on Maijweg.
  • 1,000 kg of tree soil was brought in and 1,500 kg of sand and tiles were removed. Everything was shovelled out and in by hand.

There was a lunch for all volunteers, for which residents had prepared sandwiches and soup. All volunteers got a thank you gift, partially made possible because of our Green day sponsor Aten Zijstra Makelaars. As a surprise, two foresters from Stads Bosch Beheer came to hand out sausage rolls. They also gave an award for one of the facade gardens.
