What?
NLdoet is thé national volunteer day, organised by the Oranje Fonds. In ‘t Zand, we also worked hard on this day and spruced up our neighbourhood. On Friday morning, students at Koning Willem I College helped prune the garden of the OMNII community centre. On Friday afternoon, Arcadis employees helped refurbish two jeu-de-boules courts.
On Saturday morning, dozens of residents carried out green maintenance work. Tree pits were pruned around Sint Luciaplein. Various facade gardens were maintained on Boschveldweg and Peellandstraat. Biodiversity on Maijweg was enhanced with the creation of a tiny forest.
After fixing up our neighbourhood, the residents and volunteers had lunch together in the garden of city monastery San Damiano. Volunteers from ‘t Zand and from outside of the neighbourhood also worked in this garden all morning.
After lunch, there was a tour past all the projects that had been worked on that day, to see what had been achieved during NLdoet. In total, a dozen tree pits were refurbished, dozens of square metres of greenery were maintained, and many kilos of green waste and 1m3 of gravel were processed.
