What?
NLdoet is thé national volunteer day, organised by the Oranje Fonds. In ‘t Zand, we also worked hard on this day and spruced up our neighbourhood. On Friday, students of Pierson College helped in the garden of community center OMNII. They built 4 vegetable garden containers and 4 tree benches. Friday afternoon, employees of Arcadis helped construct facade gardens and remove the big peanut plant in Brugstraat. A lot of work has been done, despite the rainy weather!
On Saturday morning we started at OMNII with a cup of coffee, because the weather was still not working with us. Luckily it quickly cleared up, and residents could get started on the neighbourhood. Through neighbour help we were asked to help depot a cherry tree, and the terrain behind Coers was spruced up. In the meantime garden waste was collected and cleaned at OMNII, and at Maijweg multiple facade gardens were fixed up. Volunteers were also working in the garden of city monastery San Damiano and Brother Fer was preparing a soup. At this point, it is a nice tradition to eat lunch together with all the volunteers during NLdoet.
After the lunch, during a hail storm, it was time to dispose of the garden waste. Two whole trailers were filled! Our neighbourhood once again looks a lot better and now the World Kitchen can cook with vegetables and spices from their own (vegetable) garden (container)
